Medal "For service to the country"

The medal was established by Government Decree No. 6 of 8 February 1955, its statutes were supplemented by Government Decree No. 44 of 9 September 1955 and No. 52 of 20 August 1958. The medal was awarded to members of the CSLA by the President of the Republic on the basis of a proposal from the Government: "...for successful activity to increase the combat readiness of the armed forces, the security of the Republic or the conscription training of workers, in particular for inventions and technical of important military significance, as well as for courageous and enterprising acts of combat which have contributed to the successful accomplishment of tasks under difficult conditions.“

Conscripted soldiers could receive it for outstanding work in the construction of the armed forces and the forces of the Ministry of the Interior, carried out over a period of at least 5 years.

This medal was awarded successively in two types - Type I in 1955-1960 in two variants of the design of the mintage, Type II from 1960.

The medal is struck in bronze with a diameter of 33 mm and a thickness of 2 mm.

Obverse:

Type I. - In the upper part of the medal a Czech two-tailed lion in a leap, looking to the right, on his chest is a shield with three peaks, on the middle higher one is a patriarchon the uppermost side of the lion are linden branches, below the lion is a five-pointed star with a hammer and sickle

type II - in the upper part of the medal a pavé with the new national emblem, accompanied on both sides by lime branches, the inscription ČSSR placed under the pavé.

Reverse. The inscription FOR SERVICE TO THE COUNTRY is placed in the open area above the branch in two lines.

The ribbon is 38 mm wide and 55 mm long, cross-hatched red with a 3 mm widered border and two 6 mm wide red central stripes, 4 mm apart. Ribbon in width and colour of ribbon.
